"Slapstick" yani vücut dilinin ön planda olduğu, oyuncuların
yaptığı hareketlerle izleyiciyi güldürmeye çalışan bir komedi türü olan
hareket komedisinin başarılı oyuncularından olan Chaplin, sinema
dünyasına yeni bir bakış açısı getirmiştir. Filmlerinde politik
mesajlarını komedi ile birleştirerek sert bir biçimde vermiş ve bu
yüzden Amerika'dan sınırdışı edilmişti. Ancak buna rağmen iki kere Oscar Onur Ödülü kazanmış ve 1975 yılında "Sir" ünvanı almıştır.
